A Legacy Since 1928
The story of our club began in the early 1930s on a scenic mound by the Kalu Ganga, near the Gangaramaya temple. Originally founded in 1928 as the 'Senior Officials’ Club' (SOC), it served as a serene retreat for high-ranking officials. It was in 1938 that the institution was formally renamed the Kalutara Lawn Tennis Club, marking a new era of inclusivity and sporting excellence.
Under the vision of our inaugural President, L. L. Hunter (AGA), and the technical supervision of Executive Engineer Mr. J.W. Casinather, the club grew from a small clubhouse and a single court into a cornerstone of colonial and post-colonial official life. By 1938, a second court was added and formal coaching for beginners commenced.
Throughout the decades, KLTC has reached numerous heights from entering national competitions in 1939 to becoming the 2004 All-Island Inter-Club Tennis Tournament Champions, 2023 ALl-Island Inter-Club Tennis Tournament Runners-up, 2026 All-Island Inter-Club Tennis Tournament Semi-Finalists. Our commitment to the sport was further cemented in 1945 with the establishment of the Annual Tennis and Bridge Tournament, a tradition that continues to define our social calendar.
KLTC remains a hub for both competitive tennis and social recreation, fostering the next generation of talent through our Junior Development Program.
